Dr. Debashis Das

Associate Professor & Head, Department of Chemistry

I am working in this Department as a faculty member since 2003. I have taught Physical Chemistry in the Honours and Pass course of the Undergraduate level and recently the Post-Graduate level of the Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University as a temporary Guest faculty. My area of research has been primarily concerned to the studies of properties of electrolytic solution in organic solvent systems. Solutions in these solvents have fostered not only academic interest but also technological interest in connection with novel battery systems and chemical synthesis. To this end, viscosity, density, electrical conductance, FT-Raman spectra and ultrasonic data have been used to study the status of association of the electrolyte in these solvent systems. Hopefully, this would give a molecular rationale for the choice of the given electrolyte in battery construction. Recently it has been initiated to develop new theoretical models by using the results of these various physico-chemical properties to get more information about different types of interactions in different binary liquid mixtures.
