About The department

The department of Chemistry came into inception in the year 1966 and is one of the earliest departments established in Dinhata College. The department of Chemistry has UG CBCS and UG NCCF Programmes. The academic program and syllabus are well designed for the students to gain better knowledge in both fundamental and applied Chemistry. The department attempts in nurturing the students for their academic growth and personality development in a congenial atmosphere. They also get opportunity to develop experimental skills. In each and every academic year, a good number of students qualify several National entrance examination (including JAM, CUET, DUET etc.) for post-graduation in various prestigious Institutes and Universities.

The department has well qualified & experienced faculties and well equipped Lab facilities for Undergraduate students. Library facility is also available in the department for the use of the students and teachers. To encourage and motivate students, the department regularly organise student-centric seminars, wall magazine, workshops, expert lectures etc. Most of the Faculty members are Doctorate holders from prestigious research institutes and are actively involved in research work. The department continues to prove its achievements in the area of research through ongoing publications in National and International Journals, Books, Inventions and Patents. The departmental faculties have also secured several research grants as sponsored by the State Government and Central Government.

The strength of this department lies in the friendly student-teacher relation, teachers’ sincere engagement in classroom teaching and mentoring the students. The enthusiastic faculties always motivate the students to learn the subject in depth as well as the latest development in this field. The faculties also encourage the students to pursue their higher studies in various eminent National Institutes. The presence of departmental library and different extra-curriculum activities (such as seminars, wall magazine, workshops) benefit the students for their overall development.

SWOC analysis of the department and future plans

Strength: The department has dedicated faculties, non-teaching staffs and adequate number of instruments to meet the requirement of Under Graduate University Curriculum.
Weakness: Infrastructure of laboratories, shortage of smart class rooms and permanent teaching faculty.
Opportunities: Students passing with Chemistry Honours go for higher studies in different Universities and Institutes (IITs, NITs etc.) all over India. Few students also join different analytical laboratories, School Service and other services.
Challenges: Although with the constrained resources in terms of time, space, teaching and non-teaching staffs and inflexible syllabus prescribed by the university we are trying our level best in order to enrich our students by discussing the frontiers areas of research in invited talks and internal seminars.

The department organizes invited talks as part of the enrichment program as well as motivates the students for publishing wall magazines, seminar and webinars. Parents Teachers meeting has also been arranged at regular interval.
