About The department
Bengali as a subject came into being right at the inception of Dinhata College in 1956. Honours Course in the Department was introduced in 1981. Studies in Bengali Language and Literature in consonance with the syllabi of the University of North Bengal are imparted in three analogous sub-streams – Bengali Honours, Elective Bengali and Compulsory Bengali.

The future of Cooch Behar, and indeed of this great country, lies in the flourishing of trade, commerce and business, augmenting not only the macro economy towards greater GDP but also in generating employment for the teeming multitudes. Far away from the hustle and bustle of the factory chimneys polluting the Yamuna; this great land of West Bengal boasts of a rich cultural industrial and commerce heritage forever enshrined in the erstwhile Nawab-ruled Musrhidabad as well as reflected in the abundance of MSMEs in current-day West Bengal. To give the right direction to the demographic dividend of Dinhata, the Commerce Department tends to foster the spirit of commerce, entrepreneurship and business acumen among the budding young minds for the greater development of society.
Departmental Highlights
The Commerce Department boasts of 100 % pass out from 2017 to 2022. The icing to the cake was reflected in Komal Pareek gaining the First Class Second Position University Rank in 2020; Shital Rathi gaining the First Class First Position University Rank in 2021 and Tamanna Saraogi gaining the First Class Second Position University Rank in 2021 overcoming the tough COVID times. Most of the students hail from business families and they are enriched after pursuing the Commerce UG education at Dinhata College.

This college is affiliated to the Coochbehar Panchanan Barma University therefore, Board of Studies (BOS) prepare and framed the syllabus. This department follows the syllabi of University and classes are takes place accordingly. Besides the university syllabus, the students of this department are also engage with different co-curricular activities like- sports, NSS, cultural etc.

The Commerce Department has a dedicated room customized to its requirement with a Wall Magazine. Furthermore, there is a supporting Departmental Library; College Central Library with internet facilities; College WiFi; College canteen; lush green field incubating both the inquisitive young mind as well as fostering an extra-curricular activities as well as building an holistic healthy minds, inspiring the students to shine forth in society.

Course Outcomes of B.Com. (UG) of Dinhata College
The course outcomes of B.Com. (UG) of Dinhata College are both academic in particular, and social, in a broader perspective. The B. Com. Pass percentage is 100 % (2018 -2022) with 3 students getting top spots during the last 5 years. In the broader perspective, the B. Com. (UG) course outcomes overflows on the social canvass of Dinhata as most of the passed out commerce students are involved in the business sectors in Dinhata and beyond.

Orientation Programmes
Every year, towards the beginning of every first semester, there is Orientation Programmes held for newly inducted students. These Orientation Programmes are held in a structured mode during the observation of Students’ Week at Dinhata College, along with all other departments.
Wall Magazines
Departmental Wall Magazines are maintained by Commerce Department with every students contributing and exhibiting their creative talents on commerce-related topics on art papers, that are prominently displayed on Wall Magazine Board.
Advance & Slow Learners
All the students of the Departments are quick learners, with 100 % pass during 2018-2022 period. Only 2 students have failed in 5th Semester last time.

Student Progression Report
Some of our students have successfully done or are in the process of completing their post-graduate course. Some have completed or are in the process of completing professional courses like ICAI or ICSI. Others are preparing for their UPSC, MBA CAT, Bank ICAI examinations. Many are doing their own business or entrepreneurship. Infact, the majority of commerce students are involved in the business activities in Dinhata and beyond.
Seminars & Workshops
The student strength of the Commerce Department being much lesser in comparison with other departments; nevertheless in light of the multi-disciplinary approach of the NEP, 2020 – the students of the Commerce Department regularly participates in the year-round Seminars and Workshops held in College by other Departments. Recently, the other Departmental students like those from History, Philosophy and Sociology interacted with the Commerce faculties (MDC 1st Semester, NCCF) and vice-versa Commerce students interacted with History Department(MDC 1st Semester, NCCF) through Departmental classes and Departmental Seminars, on a regular basis under the auspices of the NEP, 2020.
