About The department
The Department of History is a leading department of Dinhata College with
an impulsion to know the past for the betterment of future. The department
started its journey in 1956 with the establishment of Dinhata College as general
subject. It obtained approval for introducing History as Honours subject in 1994.
There were 120 sanctioned seats during the last session (2021-2022) of CBCS
curriculum. After the induction of NEP NCCF there are 705 sanctioned seats for
Major Course. The department has its good records in respect of the results of the
students, placement of the students and career building. Since its inception a
large number of students studied here and they placed in various Govt. and
private institutions.

- We provide access to high speed internet, online database and digital archive enabling students to conduct comprehensive research.
- The department has its own research journal in which the students publish their research articles.
- Our museum offer students hands-on experiences with historical artifacts and preservation technique.
- We have been developed infrastructures to support field works and educational tours, including logistic arrangements for travel to historical sites of North Bengal.
- The department always ensures that all facilities are accessible for the students to ensure an equitable learning environment.

This college is affiliated to the Coochbehar Panchanan Barma University therefore,
Board of Studies (BOS) prepare and framed the syllabus. This department follows
the syllabi of University and classes are taking place accordingly. Besides the
university syllabus, the students of this department are also engage with different
co-curricular activities like- sports, NSS, cultural, community development etc.
