Why study this Department?
The subject Economics helps us to understand how societies allocate scare resources to satisfy their needs and wants. It provides insights into decision making by individuals, business and governments, and helps us to understand how market function and how various factors influence economic growth, inflation, unemployment and trade. Additionally, economics offers tools to analyze and address issues like poverty, inequality and environmental sustainability. Economics Department enhances critical thinking, problem solving and quantitative analysis skills which are valuable in different professional courses.
Departmental Highlights
The Department offers Under Graduate Courses – Honours and Programme Course. The departments used to function with four permanent faculty members. At present there are three permanent faculty members. The department consistently organizes students’ development programmes like seminars, wall magazine and teachers-students interactions.
The Economics Department produces good results with college topper. Most of the students come from science stream to study this subject. Ranju Gopal Ray gaining the First Class First Position University Rank in 2020;

The Economics Department has only one room. The department access College Central Library with internet facilities, College WiFi and College canteen.
Course Outcomes of Economics (UG)
The department is successful in providing students with good results. The result is 100 % (2019 -2022). One of the students is presently working as guest lecturer in college. Many of them have pursued higher studies and doing well in research field.

The student strength of the Economics Department is much less in comparison with other departments of the college. The students of the Economics Department regularly participate in the year-round Seminars and Workshops held in College by other Departments. They also participate I other co-curriculum activities of the college like sports, NCC, cultural activities and so on. The students have also participated in departmental wall magazine.

The Department of Economics, Dinhata College organized the Parent-Teachers meeting every year. The primary goal of the Parent-Teachers meeting is to understand the social and family background of the students at the same time to make the parents aware about the various issues relating to education, department and the college. The objective of the Parent-Teachers meeting is to make involved or participatory to all three important stakeholders of the education that is Teachers, students and the Family or society.
